Kathy Skwiat

Claims Representative

Meet Kathy Skwiat

Kathy is a claims representative for the agency. She helps clients when they have a loss and is an asset to the organization! Here is a quick Q&A with Kathy!

What is your role at KRA?

My title is claims representative. I handle all phases of the claim process and advocate on behalf of our clients to ensure they receive quick and fair settlements.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

People might not guess that, along with a few others here in the office, I fill in for the switchboard operator when she takes a break or is out of the office.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

The aspect of my role that I enjoy the most is talking with clients and helping them calm down after they experience a loss. Listening to their stories and helping them through this stressful time is very rewarding and interesting. Just when I think I have heard it all, someone calls in with a new claim scenario. There are no ordinary or boring days when handling claims and I really do love that aspect of my role.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

When I was a senior in high school, I worked for the secretary to the superintendent of schools in my home town. It really opened my eyes to what educators have to deal with when trying to come up with policies and curriculum that are fair and respectful to students and parents of various races, religions, backgrounds, etc.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

Sports, sports, and more sports! When my kids were younger, I enjoyed watching them play baseball, play basketball, and run track and cross-country. Now that they are older, we all enjoy watching professional sports together, especially Jets games and March Madness. Our vacations usually include a baseball game at a nearby stadium and we have been to the Baseball, Football, and Basketball Halls of Fame.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

One thing I could not live without would be my smartphone.

What is your hidden talent or an interesting fact about you?

An interesting fact about me is that my lucky number is 13 and I turned 13 on Friday the 13th.

What is your favorite movie and book? Why?

My favorite movie of all time would have to be It’s a Wonderful Life. I watch it every year around Christmastime. It is truly a great reminder of how each person’s life touches so many other lives and that “no man is a failure who has friends.”

What is your motto, personal mantra, or favorite quote?

My high school history teacher, Mr. Steve Novak, ended every class by saying, “Remember, it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.” Those words have stayed with me to this day.

When are you happiest?

I am happiest when I am at the beach relaxing with my husband, Ted, and our sons, Teddy and Joey.
