Rick Bailey

IT Department Manager

Meet Rick Bailey

Rick is the manager of our IT department. He keeps all the technology running in our office! Here is a quick Q&A with Rick!

What is your role at KRA?

I am the IT department manager. My job is somewhat varied in that I deal with nearly everything technological in the office. My roles run the gamut, ranging from ensuring that emails are going through and spam is blocked to upgrading workstations to helping staff get the software (and sometimes even hardware) to do things they think the technology should be able to do.

What would people never guess you do in your role?

Provide candy to staff—I am a firm believer in always having something sweet in my office for visitors to nibble on. My goal is to make my office a warm and inviting place to discuss technological issues.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

I like problem-solving the most. When someone comes to me with something that hasn’t been done in the agency before, I love trying to figure out a way to make it happen.

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

I worked for a locksmith one summer. It happened to be an amazingly interesting job. I learned a lot about how locks work, what locks are good at keeping people secure, what security technologies were available at that time, etc.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

My daughters and I enjoy going to the movies together. As a native of Cleveland, I am also used to rooting for teams that don’t win anything. The 2015-16 NBA season threw me for a loop.

What is one thing you couldn’t live without?

Ice cream.

What is your hidden talent or an interesting fact about you?

My wife and daughters seem to think I can fix anything mechanical (especially broken toys) and get nearly any stain out of a favorite item of clothing.

What is your favorite movie and book? Why?

I honestly cannot pick just one. Even by genre, it’s too difficult a question. Trying to decide between Animal House, The Blues Brothers, The Hangover, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Tommy Boy, and Super Troopers (just to name a few) for best comedy is an impossible choice. Don’t even get me started on dramas, mysteries, or action films! As far as books go, I don’t think I’ve read any book more times than I have read Goodnight Moon. It happens to be the perfect bedtime book.

What is your motto, personal mantra, or favorite quote?

Val Kilmer in Real Genius: “[In] the immortal words of Socrates, ‘I drank what?’”

When are you happiest?

When my wife and daughters are happy.
